Dr. Eric Behlke receives the 2011 AgriLabs Beef Continuing Education Award

On September 22, 2011, Dr. Eric Behlke was awarded the 2011 AgriLabs Beef Continuing Education Award at the 44th annual meeting of the American Association of Bovine Practitioner's in St. Louis, MO.

This annual award, honoring Dr. Bruce Wren, is comprised of a $5000 grant for veterinarians who have received their degree within the past 10 years.  It exemplifies Dr. Behlke's achievements, as the award is intended to encourage veterinarians to participate in professional development in order to expand their skills and knowledge within their field of expertise.  In this case, beef cattle production. 

 

As a veterinarian and consultant at Feedlot Health Management Services Ltd. (Okotoks, AB), Dr. Behlke is part of a professional services team whose goal is to deliver comprehensive animal health management programs, production consulting services, and computerized individual animal recording systems to feedlots in Canada, the United States, Mexico and South Africa. The professional services team is comprised of veterinarians, animal scientists, nutritionists, and epidemiologists.  Dr. Behlke is also involved in FHMS’s extensive research and development capabilities that focus on identification, development, and evaluation of applied technologies in commercial feedlot production systems.

Dr. Calvin Booker - Recipient of the 2010 AVC Consulant of the Year Award

On December 2, 2010, at the Academy of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) winter meeting held in Denver Colorado, Dr. Calvin W. Booker was recognized by his peers when he was awarded with the Academy’s Consultant of the Year Award.

The award, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health was established in 1986 and consists of a $2000 general scholarship contribution made in the name of the recipient’s veterinary college of choice, a silver buckle, and a specially designed plaque in pewter bas-relief.
 
The award criteria personifies Dr. Booker’s commitment to excellence in the veterinary field; taking into consideration his achievements as a veterinary epidemiologist, his contribution to several ground-breaking research projects in beef cattle preventative medicine, the quality and competency of veterinary service he provides, his involvement with government, associations and committees at the state, national and international level, and his work in the development of innovative concepts in the delivery of feedlot veterinary services.
 
A Partner at Feedlot Health Management Services (FHMS) in Okotoks, Alberta, Dr. Booker is part of a professional services team that provides animal health management programs, production consulting services, and computerized individual animal data recording systems to feedlots in Canada, the United States, and South Africa. Moreover, as the Research Manager at FHMS, Dr. Booker leads a team with extensive research capabilities that focus on identification, development, and evaluation of applied technologies in commercial feedlot production systems. In addition to his production and research work, Dr. Booker plays an active role in promoting beef production by sharing his knowledge at national and international tours of local feedlots and while attending international conferences. Currently, Dr. Booker is also an Affiliate Faculty Member in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University.

OKOTOKS, AB, CANADA, July 24, 2009 – We are pleased to announce that Feedlot Health Management Services Ltd. (FHMS) and Livestock Consulting Services (LCS) have merged their US business interests to create the largest and most experienced feedlot veterinary and production consulting and research company of its kind in the world. The group will operate in the US as Feedlot Health Management Services-USA (FHMS-USA).
 
The merger brings together two companies whose reputations have been built on innovation, focused expertise, confidentiality, alignment with feedlot management objectives, and a commitment to developing “win/win” relationships with clients and business partners. The core components of the FHMS business model are individual animal data collection and analysis, commercial feedlot investigative and field trial research programs, economic modeling of commercial production scenarios, and formalized data-based decision making models. The core components of the LCS business model are evidence-based decision making, quality assurance, employee training and development, research, and delivery of customized, on-site consulting services. As a result, the newly formed FHMS-USA has the professional expertise, operating systems, and support infrastructure to deliver its comprehensive feedlot consulting and commercial feedlot research services in the US market.   
 
The Managing Director for FHMS-USA is Dr. Scott MacGregor. Dr. MacGregor will work closely with Dr. Breck Hunsaker in day-to-day delivery of FHMS-USA services. In Canada, Dr. Kee Jim will remain the Managing Director for FHMS and Managing Partners Dr. Calvin Booker, Dr. Tye Perrett, and Dr. Brian Wildman will remain responsible for managing day to day business operations. The combined efforts of the 13-member professional team, which is comprised of veterinarians, production consultants, epidemiologists, and nutritionists, will be used to support the delivery of FHMS-USA services.
